Francis Lazzar and Tabu: the fire of an ancient vocation
“Trees and wood have always held a great fascination for me,” says Francis Lazzar, “when I was studying, I had a box with wooden materials next to my books, and in my downtime I would build gliders.”
Despite these premises, Francesco comes late to the art of pictorial inlay. Born in Treviso in 1945, it was only after he gave up his work as an economist-mathematician that he felt his old vocation resurface, that of reviving the essence of wood and being a tireless disseminator of the culture of wood inlay.
Francesco Lazzar is now a Master in the art of pictorial marquetry, which requires in-depth technical knowledge of wood, extraordinary manual skills and great creative gifts.
He is artistic director of the National Review of Master Woodworkers.
