PRESENTATION
The conference aims to provide an indispensable and objective basis of wood knowledge, expressly designed for the designer.
After brief historical background on the birth of wood dyeing technology in Brianza and the optimization of the use of wood in the furniture industry, the following will be analyzed: the advantages for the design of natural dyed veneer (color uniformity and repeatability of the structure), the characteristics of fine woods, the process from natural to natural dyed veneer, wood dyeing and the infinite possible colors, the characteristics of multilaminar veneer, sustainability and the future of forests (FSC® forest certification). A “virtual tour” will also allow visitors to observe the entire production cycle and discover the different areas of veneer application. The latest generation of decorative surfaces based on dyeing technology will be examined in detail, and finally the internal call for entries in the IDEASxWOOD Contest, dedicated to the design of wood surfaces and furniture, will be explained.

PRESENTATION OF TABU AND THE IDEASXWOOD CONTEST
Founded in Cantù (CO) in 1927, TABU SpA represents Italian excellence in wood dyeing and produces natural dyed and multilaminar veneers for Interior Design and Architecture, as well as the latest generation of decorative wood surfaces based on dyeing technology (industrial inlays, three-dimensional surfaces, state-of-the-art boiserie and flooring). The 555.18 Collection, the world’s largest collection of natural dyed and multilaminar veneers, is Honorable Mention at the 2020 Compasso d’Oro.

IDEASxWOOD(www.ideasxwood.it) is the world’s most important Contest in the wood sector: a competition of ideas aimed at both university students and designers Under 40, annual and international, sponsored by ADI, FederlegnoArredo and FSC® Italia. It is a project planned to support the knowledge of wood and its valorization as a noble, living and renewable raw material, because it can be cultivated and planned in its availability on a planetary scale for the next generations.
